Who we are

DNAfrika is a South African ancestry testing service operated in partnership with DNAlysis Biotechnology. We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What information we collect

When you place an order we collect your name, email address, delivery address, and payment information. When you return your DNA sample, we collect and process your genetic data solely for the purpose of generating your ancestry report.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to process your order, deliver your kit, generate your ancestry report, and communicate with you about your results. We do not use your genetic data for any other purpose.

Who we share your information with

Your sample is processed by DNAlysis Biotechnology, our laboratory partner. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or genetic information with any third party for marketing, research, or commercial purposes.

How we store your information

Your data is stored securely on servers located in South Africa. We retain your ancestry report data for as long as you wish to access it. You may request deletion of your data at any time.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request corrections, and request deletion. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@dnafrika.co.za.

Cookies

Our website uses basic cookies to ensure the site functions correctly. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

Unopened kits

If you change your mind before opening your kit, you may return it within 14 days of delivery for a full refund. The kit must be in its original, sealed packaging. Return shipping costs are for the customer's account

Opened kits

Once a kit has been opened, it cannot be returned or refunded. This is due to the nature of the product — an opened collection kit cannot be resold or reused.

Damaged or incorrect kits

If your kit arrives damaged or you receive the wrong item, contact us within 7 days of delivery at hello@dnafrika.co.za with a photo of the issue. We will send a replacement at no charge.

Results

Because ancestry reports are generated from your unique genetic data, we are unable to offer refunds once your sample has been received and processed by the laboratory. If you have a concern about your results, please contact us and we will do our best to assist.

How to start a return

Email hello@dnafrika.co.za with your order number and reason for return. We will respond within 2 business days with return instructions

Refunds

Approved refunds are processed within 5 - 7 business days and returned to your original payment method

Where we ship

DNAfrika currently ships within South Africa only. We deliver to all provinces including major cities and most rural areas serviced by our courier partner.

Shipping costs

A flat shipping fee of R250 applies to all orders. This covers both delivery of your kit to you and the prepaid return envelope for sending your sample back to the laboratory.

Delivery times

Orders are processed within 1 - 2 business days. Delivery to major urban areas typically takes 2 - 4 business days. Delivery to outlying or rural areas may take up to 7 business days.

Tracking

Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive a tracking number by email so you can follow your kit's progress.

Returning your sample

Your kit includes a prepaid return envelope addressed to the DNAlysis laboratory. Simply place your sealed sample tube inside, seal the envelope, and hand it to any PostNet counter or courier drop-off point. No additional postage is required.

Delays

We are not responsible for delays caused by the courier once your order has been dispatched. If your kit has not arrived within 10 business days, please contact us at hello@dnafrika.co.za.

Lost kits

If your kit is confirmed lost in transit, we will send a replacement at no charge.

By placing an order with DNAfrika you agree to the following terms.

The service

DNAfrika provides a DNA ancestry testing service. We supply a collection kit, arrange laboratory analysis of your sample through DNAlysis Biotechnology, and deliver a digital ancestry report to you.

Eligibility

You must be 18 years or older to purchase a DNAfrika kit. By placing an order you confirm that you are of legal age.

One test per person

Each kit is intended for use by one individual. Results are specific to the person whose sample is collected. Submitting another person's sample without their knowledge or consent is not permitted.

Accuracy

Ancestry results are based on current scientific methods and reference populations. As the science evolves, interpretations may be refined. DNAfrika and DNAlysis make no guarantee that results will match expectations or family records.

Emotional impact

Ancestry results can sometimes surface unexpected information. By purchasing a kit you acknowledge that you understand this possibility and accept responsibility for how you choose to act on your results.

Intellectual property

Your ancestry report is for your personal use. You may share it freely but may not reproduce or commercialise it without our written consent.

Limitation of liability

DNAfrika is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from the use of our service or the information contained in your ancestry report.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of our service following any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
